There was a thread, that is probably pretty old by now, that was about getting the width of selections. Basically what it did was had an object on a canvas and the functions would make selections between the object on the canvas and the edge of the canvas and then return the width and length of the selections. The picture is my recreation of what I remember the author having done to explain what the functions did.
