Yes, creating a new path from edited data of an existing path works most of the time. It just adds a layer of complexity that would not be needed if the original path could be edited. For example think of the steps needed to make a simple edit to a vector mask.

Thanks all for the help, it's been really useful. I'm going to struggle with implementing the algorithm, but I'm going to start basic with triangulation and work my way up. I'll be sure to share any useful scripts that come out of this.

Thanks again!

No, I am not even sure that they were created in Illustrator. The reason I thought it was created in another vector app is because I tried several times to create a path in Photoshop that had a similar problem( unable to access all path points ) but was unable. That of course may be just my lack of skill with the pen tool.

I found the problem sample supplied to me by another member and have posted it again in the upload section if you want to have a crack at it. http://ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4856

Sorry to drop in so late …
thehen, have you ever posted an example of an original path and what the resulting path are supposed to look like?

I think this is the original thread where the problem came to my attention. http://ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php? ... 23&p=18342

The problem path is posted in that thread and I posted it again in the upload section. What the OP wanted was to split a path with subpaths so that each subpath is a separate path. i.e. the samples path has four subpaths so 4 new paths should be created.
