Forgive me if this topic has been addressed before, but a search did not reveal an answer for me. Is there a way to run photoshop scripts in the background, or without a GUI, or at least not have the screen updated when the GUI is running?
Thanks in advance - this forum has been a great resource for me!

No and No.
or at least not have the screen updated when the GUI is running?
Make sure that you set your Action Playback Options to Accelerated. Having all of your palettes closed will also speed things up.
