Just trying to bring some of my CS3/4 stuff up-to-date with CS5 but I can't open any of my jsx files in the ESTK? I get the dialog below asking me to select a language, but the list is empty? Any ideas why this is happening?

I don't know why your dialog is empty or why you are getting that dialog when opening a file with the .jsx extension.
The only time I have seen that dialog is when I open a file without an extension or with a non-standard extension. Then I do get that dialog but it has about 26 different languages listed.
I'm on Windows so ESTK on Mac may be different.

I'm on XP. The machine has both CS3 (just PS) and CS5 (Design Suite). With CS3/ESTK2 I get a number of languages in the popup when it does appear. Tried to find a repair option in the add/remove programs list, but haven't come up with anything. Any thoughts as to whether or not an uninstall/reinstall is going to fix anything - it takes a dreadfully long time to do if isn't even likely to fix it

I'm also use WinXP and I don't know if a uninstall/reinstall will fix that issue. It's not normal behavior so I would think that it should but I can't say for certain that it will. And I would hate for you to spend all that time on my advice and it still not work correctly.
If you create a script from scratch in ESKT CS5 and save and close it, can you then open it without the dialog? Or is it just files that where created with a different editor or different version of ESKT that will not open? Do you get that dialog when you try to open one of the scripts that ship with CS5 like Image Processor?

No, even a script created in the CS5 ESTK won't re-open in it. I noticed the file type dropdown is mostly empty too. All I have are a 'FILES' (no extension) and All Files *.* options. Definately not right.

Your ESTK install sounds busted. Try uninstalling and reinstalling ESTK by itself since that's where the problem is.

I had no joy re-installing the ESTK, but the following response from Adobe has partially fixed the issue. I can now open jsx files, but the file filters in the open dialog still just has the odd 'FILES (files)' and 'All Files (*.*)' entries. I'll post it here in case anyone else experiences similar...
please follow the steps given below:
Re-create the ESTK preferences files:
To re-create the ESTK preferences files:
1. Quit ESTK .
2. Rename the Prefs file (for example, to Prefs.old) located in the
Documents and Settings\[user profile]\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe
ESDK>3.5 folder.
3. Start ESTK . ESTK creates a new preferences file.
If the problem continues, the preferences file isn't the cause. To
restore custom settings, delete the new preferences file and restore the
original name of the previous preferences file.
