writing to file info meta data

trying to find an approachable way to append info to the file info page in photoshop meta data file. I had started writing a XML parser for ES but then I was thinking there might be something out there already? I want to create a basic prototype of a version control that shows last edits in file and by who, etc. not a huge fan of the notes panel.
