Important Notice: I am currently in the process of releasing full non-beta versions of all my scripts and as of today - 18 Feb 2006 - am withdrawing all outstanding beta versions. To stay in touch with the full-release rollouts, subscribe to the thread:

The new versions will have much improved dialogs, better integration with Bridge and many new features.

The first steps in raw image processing (even before initial archiving) are image review and renaming:

1. Review images and perhaps provide an initial organization into appropriate categories (keepers, deletes, best shots, family images, landscape etc.);

2. Rename images so archived images, raw source image names and processed image all have the same names.

For step 1 (review) to be effective you must be able to inspect the images full size and at roughly the right exposure and color settings. Otherwise you cannot tell if the image is blurred, shows shadow noise or is defective in some way. In Photoshop neither the File Browser (CS) nor Bridge (CS2) is enough, the image must be initially opened into Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) to be given appropriate raw processing settings. Therefore as part of this first stage we have:

3. Open image into ACR and confirm initial processing settings (alternatively have a process for returning the image to ACR should the default settings not appear adequate).

AH Image Processor and Reviewer automates these steps while retaining total flexibility in how you work with each individual image.

Automates Raw Image Review:

- Review your images at full size and full quality - work in Full-Sceeen mode at any zoom level you wish or use the G-Viewer to quickly zoom in on the key parts of your image at 100%.
- Control your Review Process - you can select images to keep, select images to delete, view and review your delete list and move backwards and forwards through your images to ensure selection of the right ones.
- Apply Keywords to images as you review them - allows you to later select images within multiple categories once review is completed.
- Optionally Adjust and Set each images Raw Processing parameters as part of image inspection.

Automates single layer processing of RAW files

- you can use the Adobe Camera Raw ("ACR") dialog for each image individually as you run through a set of images.
- or, you can use processing settings that you attached to the image via "Apply Camera Raw Settings' in the File Browser ("FB").

Supports and automates multiple layer processing of RAW files as part of image review (for a more complete Multi-Layer RAW processing solution use Andrew Hall Multi-Layer RAW Processor).

File Renaming and File Handling

- automates renaming of the raw file and of the processed output file - including the incorporation of metadata (e.g. camera based image creation date/time) in the file name.
- automates the destination folder for the raw file and the processed file.
- can be run across a system of subfolders and can screen for file extension and file name.

Allows user-created actions to be played on the processed files for maximum power, flexibility and ease of use.

In the next few days I will be releasing various complementary scripts including a purpose built Multi-Layer Raw Processor and an Image File Renamer.

Keywords added to the raw file, although they are there, do not show until you refresh the FB cache - the easiest way of which is File>> Purge Cache in the File Browser. For processed files (eg tiff) they show straight away.
