Making Photoshop talk to other applications

Has anyone been able to do this?
I'm not talking about making Photoshop talking to other apps in the creative suite -package (which I think is supported in Adobe Configurator 4) but making Photoshop send instructions to other, non-Adobe apps.

There is a raw Socket interface. People have used it to talk to web and mail servers.

Yea socket connections is something I've glanced at a bit.
Do you know where I can find app-to-app examples of this? All I've found is webdev -related.

I think if you are talking about using javascript then the answer is no. You can use Applescript or one of the VB/C languages for non-Adobe cross app messaging.
