save files and create a log

any one know what you can do to write something that simply saves a file to a directory, but maybe does some kind of measurement? like read the source file size and destination so they match to make sure the file was a success, then create a log of the time, location, and file name of what just pushed? its a running log that just keeps having info added. help please1
